We are THRILLED to share that after a year of development, the beta version of our new North San Juan Channel hydrophone is now streaming online for you to tune in to! OBI is the site host for this new node that is part of the Orcasound - Listen for Whales Salish Sea hydrophone network.

You can tune in to this hydrophone here: https://dev.orcasound.net/dynamic/rpi_north_sjc

In the first few days of listening we've already learned a lot about the acoustic scope of this node that covers the area approximately between Yellow Island and San Juan Island, and heard several interesting sounds including a wide variety of vessels and fish grunts. Who will be the first to hear whales? We can't wait to find out!

You can note ANY hydrophone-related observations on this collaborative spreadsheet: https://tinyurl.com/NSJCSpreadsheet

And, if you hear whales, we sure hope you will also report on our Whale Sightings in the San Juan Islands Facebook page!
